Malwarebyte compatibility with other utilities...

Recommended Posts

I'm using Zone Alarm Pro, ESET 6.0 A/V,and also Webroot Spy Sweeper (not their A/V or internet security). I downloaded and installed Malwarebytes to kill a trojan that SS did'nt get. 1) Can I run all these programs at the same time? 2) If I should'nt run Spysweeper with Malwarebytes can I run one at a time as my subscription is still valid? 3) Can a similar utility be installed with no conflict as long as it's not running at the same time? By the way Malwarebytes nailed the trojan on the first pass...impressive. Please respond asap and/or point me to the right posts on the forum as I'm a newbie..

Hi:

Until the MBAM staff/experts stop by...

The general rule of thumb is: 1 robust, real-time antivirus (AV) + 1 robust, real-time antimalware +/- 1 software firewall (especially if you aren't behind a router).

In particular, MBAM PRO is designed and tested to provide layered protection alongside a good AV: Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

That should be all you need, assuming you otherwise practice safe computing.

Some folks do run additional antimalwares in real-time, or manually/on-demand.

The results with that depend on one's computer specs, which programs, etc.**

However, "more" is sometimes "less" (less protection, less performance, etc).

The one thing to avoid, however, is having more than one ANTIVIRUS installed -- doing so definitely renders your system less secure & can cause serious performance problems.

HTH for starters,

PS **Isn't Webroot SpySweeper obsolete, having been replaced several years ago by "Webroot Secure Anywhere"? If so, I don't think having it on your system will add any security.
