CPU Suddenly Slow (Gaming/General Use)

Hello MB forums,

I really don't know where else to turn.

Basically I built this PC on the 10th of January and was extremely happy with the performance

it provided. Until about the 17th when gaming and browsing game noticeably slower, especially

gaming (Could run Far Cry 3 Ultra, can barely run on Lowest now). So I assumed it was a virus

and came to this forum. I was assisted by Mr Charlie in the Hijackthis forum and we couldn't

really find anything wrong in terms of malware or virus' after many tests. So I went to the seven forums and all

people really suggested was my processes, CPU temp and my PSU. My PSU should be good

enough for all my components (Specs Below). I monitored my CPU temp idle with HWMonitor and

that looked fine too (30-40c). I also couldn't notice any strange processes hogging CPU, it was all

very normal.

So I turn to this forum in hopes that you guys will be able to help me because you guys are the best!

(So Friendly)

SPECS:

i5 3470

XFX PRO550w

MSI Z77-G43 Motherboard

XFX Radeon HD 7870

1TB Seagate Barracuda

8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz

Might I also mention that my RAM is running at 1333 MHz for some reason.

Unaltered BIOS?

I assume your running some version of Windows?

Let's start by troubleshooting some hardware. First thing I would try is a disk check. HDDs are probably the most common failure point.

Open up a command prompt window with admin right and run "chkdsk /f /r" without quotes. This will check for errors on your hard drive. You will need to reboot for the check to occur.

  • Root Admin

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.
