ie3sh.exe BHO trojan

Recommended Posts

Someone installed the fast search browser tool bar and it has been on the computer... for a while. Right now Malwarebytes has removed all the infections, however on startup it says "This application has failed to start because BHO.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem" This gets really annoying. :wacko:

Below are the malwarebyte logs.

mbam-log-2013-01-17 (19-09-58).txtmbam-log-2013-01-17 (20-05-55).txtmbam-log-2013-01-17 (20-32-19).txtmbam-log-2013-01-17 (20-51-38).txt

Hopefully someone can get back to me soon. :)

That scan looked OK, please do this............

Please download and run ComboFix.

The most important things to remember when running it is to disable all your malware programs and run Combofix from your desktop.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.

Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.

Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

Hi, mbam-log-2013-01-18 (16-37-27).txt

The computer is running fine.

A couple of questions,

1. The problem was the ie3sh.exe which was removed, should I restart the computer after this to make sure that it's gone and that it doesn't run on start up?

2. The muzapp.exe which was removed by Combofix is apparently part of Samsung Kies, is that an FP?

Thanks Charlie. :)

Yes

Using ComboFix......

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

4. If ComboFix wants to update.....please allow it to.

DeQuarantine::

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\Windows\System32\muzapp.exe.vir

Quit::

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

CFScript.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix while it is running. It may cause it to stall.

After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot)......

Please provide the contents of the ComboFix log (C:\ComboFix.txt) in your next reply.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then.............
Please find this file and upload to VirusTotal for a free scan, let me know the results (just copy back the url)
OK, it's clean..you can use it.
Lets check your system for any adware while you're here:
Please download AdwCleaner from here and save it on your Desktop.
AdwCleaner is a reliable removal tool for Adware, Foistware, toolbars and potentially unwanted programs.
AdwCleaner is a tool that deletes :
· Adwares (software ads)
· PUP/LPI (Potentially Undesirable Program)
· Toolbars
· Hijacker (Hijack of the browser's homepage)
It works with a Search and Deletion methode. It can be easily uninstalled using the "Uninstall" mode.
  1. Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator (for XP just double click) to launch the application.
  2. Now click on the Search tab.
  3. Please post the contents of the log-file created in your next post.
Note: The log can also be located at C:\ >> AdwCleaner[XX].txt >> XX <-- Denotes the number of times the application has been ran, so in this should be something like R1.
Please look over what was found, we're going to delete it all in the next step....if there's something you may want to keep...please let me know and I'll explain to why it shouldn't be on your system.
It told me that my preferences were corrupt or invalid for Google Chrome?
Don't worry about that.
Java™ 6 Update 13 <-----uninstall from add/remove programs
Java™ 7 Update 5 <---please update, should be Update 11
Java version out of Date!
Please check for updates on these:
Adobe Reader 9 Adobe Reader out of Date!
Adobe Reader 10.1.5 Adobe Reader out of Date!
You have out dated programs on the system which are vulnerable to malware.
Please update or uninstall them
Info on doing that can be found in my Preventive Maintenance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A little clean up to do....

Please Uninstall ComboFix: (if you used it)

Press the Windows logo key + R to bring up the "run box"

Copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

cf2.jpg

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and clears System Restore cache and create new Restore point

(If that doesn't work.....you can simply rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe and double click it to complete the uninstall)

---------------------------------

Please download OTL from one of the links below: (you may already have OTL on the system)

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.com

http://www.itxassoci...T-Tools/OTL.exe

Save it to your desktop.

Run OTL and hit the CleanUp button. (This will cleanup the tools and logs used including itself)

Any other programs or logs you can manually delete.

IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST, MBAR, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall.

-------------------------------

Any questions...please post back.

If you think I've helped you, please leave a comment > click on my avatar picture > click Profile Feed.

Take a look at My Preventive Maintenance to avoid being infected again.

Good Luck and Thanks for using the forum, MrC

JavaFX is a software platform for creating apps and applets for media such as browser, mobile phones etc. etc. Programs written in JavaFX uses a script mainly used in webpages... You can remove it, but loading some pages may experience issues.

Also, I can't find the Adobe Reader 9 in the program list

OK, I see that you had 2 versions of it picked up by Security Check

So just update the Adobe Reader 10.1.5 version and that should be good.

Hi,

How do I update Adobe reader? Do I uninstall the current one and go to the website and get the new one? Because this http://get.adobe.com/reader/ gives me the 10.1.4 update, however I'm currently on the 10.1.5 update?

Also, just for some personal clarification to the people who use the computers, what was this trojan? Was it just to collect information for a third party? Or was it a keylogger?

Will move onto the OTL next, after OTL will I have to remove all the programs I've used manually?
