Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Yesterday my computer was running really slow and one of my programs kept closing down by it's self, anyway i did a scan using MBAM and it turned out i had a Trojan BHO, i removed it using MBAM and now my computer is still running slow! don't know what else to do, been trying to fix this all day but had no success. Does anyone know what i can do to get it back to normal again? I'll list my specs below. Cheers

MS Windows XP Home SP3

Please post the MBAM and HJT logs.

Also note that not all slowness is Malware.

Computer and browser slowness are not always malware related

Poor performance and other problems can be the result of disk fragmentation, disk errors, corrupt system files, too many startup programs, unnecessary services running, not enough RAM, dirty hardware, etc. As your system gets older it becomes filled with more files/programs and has a natural tendency to slow down so cleaning and regular maintenance is essential.

Listed below are a few things you can do to improve speed and system performance. Many of the these suggestions will apply if you're using Windows Vista but may be done a bit differently. Near the bottom of this thread there is a section specifically devoted to Vista Users.

For browser problems, see:

If your having connectivity issues or errors such as Page cannot be displayed see

If you're using Vista or Internet Explorer 7, see

If you have a lot of toolbars and add-ons attached to Internet Explorer, you could try improving performance by disabling those which are unecessary. See:

I think this one is either malware or a registry problem, the browser wroks fine, it's just about every 5 minutes or so the busy light comes on and useually you can hear the diskdrive clicking but there's no noise and everything freezes for about 15 seconds, it's done it twice already while i was writing this! i think it may be registry related as a restored one of my registry fixes from the other day and the computer ran fine, then when i removed the trojan with MBAM it started freezing again.

No problem, please post the most recent MBAM scanning log and the following log.

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt
