Scan Settings

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

My Malwarebytes free is set to scan memory, startup, registry, file systems etc. But after a scan it reports only file system, hueristics shuriken, Pup and Pum enabled.

It reports memory, startup, registry, Hueristics extra amd P2P as disabled, despite them being ticked to go in settings.

Can someone say if I have a problem or is this correct? Are these items only in the paid version?

Many thanks,

albanbob

Hello and :welcome:

Those features are available in both the paid version and the free version.... if you would like we can try a clean install of Malwarebytes and then you can try another scan to see if it fixes your issue. Below are the steps to take....

Please do the following and let us know if this corrects the issue for you or not.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.
      Location for Windows x86

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

      Location for Windows x64

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Hi again,

Have followed through your instructions - un-installed and re-installed and re-booted.

I'm not too clever with firewall settings - I have Avast Internet Security and the Malwarebytes setting in the firewall applications are set to:

Friends in and Internet out.

Outbound port - All.

Inbound - 2604

For all other connections - Block.

Have run a right-click check on a Word Doc and there is no change - Scan options disabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | Heuristics/Extra | P2P

Cheers,

Bob

That is the correct result for a single file scan. When you scan a file its not in Memory | Startup | Registry | Heuristics/Extra | P2P at the time. Its a static non running file.

A staffer will have to correct me or add to the explanation.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't realise this. Is it the same for programs (as well as files) I download and run a check on before I open them? ie it's a static non-running item and Memory | Startup | Registry | Heuristics/Extra and P2P don't need to be checked as they don't apply to this scan?

Cheers,

Bob
