updated but problems

Recommended Posts

i just updated malwarebytes (new shortcut on desktop) but when i go to 'more tools' and click on any of the 'tools' there i get a message saying 'this action cannot be completed because the other application is busy. Choose 'switch to' to activate the busy application and correct the problem' but the problem is clicking on 'switch to' does not do anything and i then cannot close 'Malwarebytes' i have to open 'Task Manager' and use 'end task'.

can anybody advise me on this or know how to fix it....thank you

Hi, andytg: :)

Welcome.

Those "More Tools" links are currently hard-coded for IE (even if it's not your preferred or default browser).

Do you have Internet Explorer installed and enabled on your computer?

If that doesn't resolve it for you, post back and let us know, so that we can do a bit of troubleshooting.

  • Root Admin

Are you running Sandboxie or some other application that disabled or monitor Internet Explorer from running?

That message is due to the underlying call to Internet Explorer by the system being blocked, often due to an application asking your permission but since the call is silent and not set to be interactive you won't see the message asking you to allow IE to run.

Hi there -

Your version may not have fully updated, so if you wish, here is an option for you.

Follow these procedures as outlined below.

•Download and then run this utility. mbam-clean.exe

•It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

•After the computer restarts, Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE

Information on A/Virus (temporary disable) HERE if needed

From the way you are talking, it seems you have Vista or Windows7 installed, and I.E. 9 or even a later version of I.E. is a part of your Windows installed program. Download Internet Explorer 9 to keep updated.

Be sure Windows Updates is activated to keep your system always updated

Please let us know how this goes.

Thank You

noknojon

thanks for that, i have Windows 7 and an old version of IE its version 8, i dont like IE and never use it, the one time i did upgrade IE something happened and i had to use 'safe mode' and 'system restore' to get my laptop working again so i have not upgraded IE since, think i will just un install MalewareBytes and re install it and see what happens, as i have said before the version of MB before this one gave me no problems....

on a different note is there a way this site can send me an e mail when i get a new reply, i thought i ticked the correct boxes in my 'profile settings' for that to happen, but i might have missed one.......thanks again all....

Hi:

It's not a good idea to uninstall IE.

Even if you don't use it as your preferred or default browser, many 3rd-party software applications need it to work/update correctly.

And it's VERY important to keep it updated, for security reasons.

If you need help with upgrading/configuring it, you could start a new post in the PC Help section >>HERE<<.

You don't "need" IE to run MBAM itself.

It's only for the links to the Chameleon and other tools, since that feature is currently hard-coded for IE.

Having said, that, you can certainly try a clean reinstall, as noknojon suggested.

As far as forum notifications, please check this topic for some tips on setting that up: >>HERE<<.

Thanks all,

i am not un installing IE as it is needed for 'Windows' (which i have been told) but i am not upgrading it as i had problems when i did, i guess the problem i am having with MalwareBytes is connected to IE, as i only have IE 8 and i am assuming seeing that MB has now 'upgraded' it does not like the older IE, i will have a go of un installing MB and re installing it, but if that does not fix the problem i will just have to forget about the 'other tools'

Thanks again all.....

Hi:

FYI, Chameleon is already installed with MBAM and can be accessed from the Windows start menu: Use Chameleon to run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on infected systems

The links are just another way to access it.

Neither Chameleon nor MBAR would be routinely needed for day-to-day use, unless one's computer were infected.

In that case, trained malware helpers would be able to assist you in getting these and other scanning/removing tools to work.

As for IE, please be aware that recent, severe security vulnerabilities have been identified in all IE versions 8 and lower:

http://forums.malwar...howtopic=120170

http://technet.micro...dvisory/2794220

MS has urged all Windows Vista and 7 users to update to IE 9 (IE 10 will be released soon).

There are many expert forum members here and at other computer sites (sevenforums.com, bleepingcomputer.com, etc), including many MS MVPs.

They could more than likely assist you in upgrading to IE9, over in the PC Help section.

Having said all that, it's certainly up to you.

Cheers,

so you are saying it is wise to upgrade to IE 9 even if i dont use it...

I am just a home computer user, but that is MS's recommendation (see the link in my previous reply as well as many others at many computer security sites that will come up on a Google search ).

Once again, it's up to you.

There's plenty of expert help with the process if you need it, either in the PC Help section here or at other computer sites. :)

Cheers,
