Free 1.70.0.1100 Check for Updates button grayed out

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I downloaded and installed the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100. On the Update tab the Check for Updates button is grayed out. The database I have is dated 12/30/2012. How do I get database updates? Is there something I need to do so that the Check for Updates button is not grayed out and works? Is this not available for the free version?

Running on Win8.

Thank you!

The grayed out 'Check for Updates' button indicates you are running Malwarebytes as a limited user, these users are not allowed by default to update our software.

You must be logged in as an administrator to update. Or, the software must be installed by an administrator account, then scheduled updates(requires licensing) will run regardless of account privileges.

Alternatively, you can right click on the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware desktop icon, and then select "Run as..." (on Windows XP) or "Run as administrator" (on Windows Vista or Windows 7). A dialog box will open. Enter the password (if required). Once you have done that, you should be able to update without any issue.

Thank you! That was it. I always log onto a user account for normal use of my computer and only use an admin account for doing special stuff. I ran the software as an admin and was able to update. Thanks again.

Happy to have been of help, have a great weekend.
