Updating Error

Recommended Posts

Hi. After years of using the free version, I finally upgraded to 1.70 PRO this week and it works great except that it will no longer update properly. It downloads each update, but then gives me the following error code:

PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (5, 0, MBAMFileIO::WriteFile)

Zugriff verweigert [i.e. "Access is denied."?]

I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 32-Bit (German edition), and also run Sophos Anti-Virus. I saw in a thread regarding 1.60 (http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=105555) that in such a case one should install mbam-clean-1.XX.exe, but the link in that post was for the 1.60 file. Is that still the best course of action, and if so is there an mbam-clean-1.70.exe available?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi, KenBrown: :)

Until an MBAM staffer arrives...

Yes, you can try and clean reinstall, with attention to setting the mutual exclusions between MBAM and your AV/firewall.

I don't think our sticky topic mentioned in the instructions below includes specifics for Sophos, but the general principles will be the same.

Please let us know if this resolves your issues.

Thanks,

PS Mbam-clean is not specific for the version of MBAM program. So, just use the link/version included below to get the current version of mbam-clean. :)

--------------------

MBAM Clean Reinstall

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).

You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.

Location for Windows x86

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Location for Windows x64

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you cannot locate your registration in the Registry and no longer have access to your order number, you can contact Cleverbridge to obtain information about your order and registration information:
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the system tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Very good! :)

FYI, scheduled updates occur randomly within a 30-minute window around the scheduled time. For example, hourly updates scheduled at ##:30 will occur any time between ##:15 and ##:45. (Scheduled SCANS occur at the exact time they are scheduled.)

If you are new to MBAM PRO, you might find helpful the many articles and how-to videos here: http://helpdesk.malwarebytes.org/forums

Feel free to post back if you need anything else,
