Problems installing Nvidia Drivers

Recommended Posts

Hello,

so yesturday, I had the GeForce 306.97 Driver WHQL installed, but I hadn't installed the GeForce 310.70 Driver WHQL because some people were saying how it's the same as the beta drivers but just tagged with WHQL.

However, some of the stuff on the 306.97 drivers kept crashing and wouldn't work such as the the update function, so I decided to upgrade.

Before doing so, I tried uninstalling the 306.97 drivers, and while doing that, my computer monitor went black and my computer wouldn't respond, and every minute I would get a weird beep from my computer motherboard I believe, not from my speakers.

A couple minutes later, it started to beep in a different way, so I decided to restart my computer. It hadn't fully uninstalled, so I ran the uninstaller again. I tried running Driver Fusion, however since I didn't have the premium version of it, of course it hadn't let me remove everything that I could have.

I had the HD audio drivers and Physx installed, and since I was having some trouble with them before, I tried uninstalling those since they were left. The uninstallers on both of them always gave me some weird message about something about new hardware or something, and I got that message even when I restarted my computer 3 times.

So I installed Advanced Uninstaller Pro and tried uninstalling it from there, but it hadn't worked, so I made the software scan for registry keys and files left over from Physx and HD audio drivers, and it removed all of the things that it found.

I decided to just give up at this point and just install GeForce 310.70 Driver WHQL, everything installed but the Physx drivers, so I downloaded the newest version of Physx, and an older version which I believe I had previously.

I tried installing the newest version, and I get a "installation terminated" error. Also, while trying to install the older version, I get the same message, with a pop up after saying "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

So is there anything I can do? When I go into control panel, I can't find the setup for Physx to modify or uninstall it.

Thanks :)

Hi,

Run the installer again, but this time click Custom. Check all of the available options and also click the checkmark for Clean Installation. If there was a corrupted file somewhere, this should fix it. Beeps could mean a number of different things. Hard to say without more detailed diagnostics, but if it happens again, we can investigate.

I selected custom with a clean install, it says the Graphics Driver installed, while the Nvidia Update, 3D Vision Controller, HD audio, and 3D vision driver has a status of not installed.

PhysX failed to install.

I believe since I kept getting errors when I tried running the uninstaller before for the HD audio drivers and PhysX, I decided to just scan for files and registry keys with Advanced Uninstaller Pro, and perhaps it didn't fully remove everything or missed some stuff and it may be related to that or so.

I'm not really sure about it though.

So today, after talking to the chat support and troubleshooting for over 2 hours, I think the issue is finally resolved! However, it's probably the worst way of troubleshooting, not knowing how exactly you've fixed the problem.

After talking to the agent and explaining the problem he gave me these steps to do.

1. Uninstall all the NVIDIA drivers from windows control panel> programs and features.

2. Restart the computer and then get to the C Partion.

3. If NVIDIA folder found in that, please delete that.

4. Get to program files and there too look for the folder by name 'NVIDIA corporation'.

5. Empty that folder by deleting if any files and subfolder found

6. Restart once again and then now, get to system registry using regedit command in 'Run' option.

7.See if any of the registry keys still found under H Key Users > software > NVIDIA

8. delete those too and then restart the computer once again.

I did that, but after that in the installation it was still detecting the old version of Physx and it failed to install. So I talked to the agent again, and he told me to try to do the same procedure but at the end to also delete H key Local Machine> software> Do you see AGEIA Technologies after he talked to his supervisor about it.

I tried that, yet again it failed. So finally, after talking to a different agent who was aware of the issue since the first one left, he suggested me to reinstall the OS since we already tried deleting all the registry/folders/files. I already felt tired and stressed from spending all this time and the issue not being fixed, so I just decided to use the find/search function in regedit and type in "physx".

I started to delete some random registry keys related to physx and just give up now since the only solution which seemed to be was reinstall OS (which I really didn't want to spend the time spending HOURS getting all the stuff back).

So I decided to install the Nvidia drivers and leave it at that even if the physx fails. But strangely enough, it succeeded!

The worst type of troubleshooting is when you fixed it, and you don't even know exactly how you did it. <_< It seems that deleting those random registry keys did the job, but I'm not exactly sure which one. When I manually went into the folders I couldn't find the keys because they were located in some deep areas.
