Forums Search Not Working

Several problems:

1. I have discovered three malware files on a network storage device: myporno.avi.lnk, pornmovs.lnk, and setup1911.lnk

2. Malwarebytes does not detect them as malware -- even when scanned directly.

3. When I searched all forums for information on "myporno.avi.lnk", I get no results. But I have searched on Google and found at least one (worthless) mention of that malware in a forum posting. (http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=79452).

So, it appears that MB and MB's forums search are not working properly.

I think you will find that all forum software is quite limited for that type of search. Using Google or similar search engines are much better at searching than using the built-in MySQL / PHP search facility. They are much more restrictive in nature and limited in abilities.

Those files are what we would consider flat files meaning that they are simply dormant files that alone pose no threat or have no entry in the Registry or file structure to pose a threat. Using an antivirus product to detect and remove those type of items is recommended. We focus on actual live active threats that an antivirus might not currently detect. Your antivirus typically has a very large database to allow for better detecting them.

I'm surprised that Google's search of your forums would be more reliable then your own. Seems very odd, to me. But I don't know much about these things.

I am learning about the differences between MB and AV programs. My AV software doesn't find them either (Avast). But when I did a right click on one of the lnk's, Avast popped up to say it was malware and it was blocked. So I guess I can just delete them.
