What to run in support of and with Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I read that malware bytes is a soft malware protection program and that users of it also should download additional protection software to fully protect their computers.

I'm ok with that, and my questions are all directed at : what else shall I download,... and what is recommended? and where can I download it from?

About me and my computer use : I'm a home user who just serfes the web, and my kids do home work with and research topics on this computer and play some video games on this computer.

I greatly appreciate your assisitance.

Hi, flywelder: :)

You wrote:

I'm just a home user and a forum volunteer, but I'm not sure what you mean by a "soft malware protection program"?

Perhaps you could clarify this a bit or provide the link to the site where you read this?

If you mean that MBAM is not an anti-virus program, that is indeed correct: Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software? :)

MBAM is specifically designed and tested to be run in real time to provide layered protection ALONGSIDE a robust, real time anti-virus program, either free or paid.

As far as specific AV recommendations, there is no one "perfect" AV -- selection depends on many factors (hardware, OS, 3rd-party software, computer usage habits, etc).

MBAM is tested to be compatible with all of the major, popular AVs.

One of our forum mods has posted a few suggestions here: Free Antivirus Recommendations

The first line of computer defense (software-wise) is the AV; MBAM PRO provides additional, layered protection against the types of threats often missed by the Avs.

Until an MBAM staffer comes along with additional specific recommendations, you might find some of the links in this recent post helpful: http://forums.malwar...ndpost&p=628120

Hi daldoc1,

The info you shared has been helpful, thank you! :)

Here is the link to the site where I gleamed my information.

Interview with Malwarebytes' founder, Marcin Kleczynski

Your so correct that Malwarebytes is not a antivirus program. and that was what I was referring to.

Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. :)

I feel sure now that mlawarebytes is what I need. I just don't know a user friendly AV and then a firewall, to go with it. ..........there exists, TOO many to choose from and to try and compare! rrrg! :(

I would so much rather spend my time with my wife and grand kids than all the hrs. I have spent on this computer in the last 4 weeks {averaging 4 hrs. each time!} while I heard them laughing and playing in the other room! I missed out all those precious moments because of malware! rrrrg! :(............ I want to never miss out again! That's why I am here asking so many Qs.

Say do you know if a tablet needs malwarebytes and an AV + firewall?

You're certainly right that there are many choices and opinions on security. The best way to know is to read and learn but that doesn't mean you have to ignore the family over it. Just turn off the computer - it's not going to get anymore infected or messed up while it's off and you're away doing things more important.

Then when you have time and want to, go ahead and do some reading so that you learn new things and become a better overall computer user in the process.

As you have time here are some links with a wealth of information. Don't act quickly and rashly about the information though. Just take your time and read it at your own pace.

The links that Daledoc1 provided you actually cover these but figured I'd list them for you as well.

For what it's worth, I am a home user and quite security conscious. I have the PAID versions of the following:

Malwarebytes

SUPERAntiSpyware

Avast Internet Security 7

WinPatrol

All of these have free versions, but there are extra features that come with paid versions that I prefer to have..

I am no computer guru, but these are what I use and have been satisfied with and you can check into for yourself.

My sincere thanks to each of you! :)

I have had fears that things would get worse, and the virus spread if I turned the computer off and couldn't get it back up or online to seek help.. ....A relief to know it is not like a virus that grows and that has the potential to inflict death if not dealt with right away, such as can happen to humans.

Let me ask all you this:

Nikilet you wrote that you have both Malwarebytes and Super anti spyware. This is very Interesting, as for based on my internet reading so far, I am thinking these are both, Anti spyware software. Am I wrong?

And so, i was thinking I would only need one Anti spyware program,? Am I wrong ?

I am now wondering why it is recomedended to have just one AV program?
