Help, can't remove PUM.UserWLoad!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! newbie here, but I've always trusted MB as the best in the biz, but lately it's been letting me down.

Here's a little context: I've got a little sony VAIO with windows 7 starter edition, and I've been using the latest Internet Explorer with no problems except for the occasional bug or two.

I had that FBI moneypack thing a few weeks ago, but I kicked it's ass- or at least I thought I did.

I've run MB (I have the free version) several times today after having trouble browsing the internet (I'm in safe mode right now so an error message "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage yada yada" doesn't pop up as often). After each MB scan, I get only one error detected, "PUM.UserWLoad," which I can't remove upon restarting my computer.

I've found similar threads posted on here, but they are pretty hard to follow.

Can someone explain to me, in layman's terms, how do I get rid of this little booger? Thanks

Hi and welcome, bananaman: :)

Couple things:

No one security product -- not even MBAM -- can possibly protect against every single malware variant.

That's why it's important to use a layered approach to security, with a robust realtime AV, and a realtime anti-malware program (MBAM) (and safe computing practices).

If you are only using MBAM Free, you don't have the real-time protection of the PRO version (which helps to PREVENT infections).

So, it can only help you to remove an infection that is already on your system.

And you didn't mention if you are running an AV, which is always one's first line of computer defense.

Having said that, the experts will assist you in cleaning your computer. :)

Please start by following the recommendations in this sticky topic: Available Assistance.

Thanks,

Sounds like a plan - the experts over there ought to be able to get you cleaned up.

You'll definitely want to ask for their "preventative" recommendations once you are done, so minimize the chance that you'll be reinfected.

Please be patient waiting for a helper -- the forum is VERY busy this time of year, and most of the helpers are volunteers.

Someone will assist you as soon as possible.

Cheers,
