Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.7

Recommended Posts

What's up everyone? I'd like to ask a couple questions about Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.7. I've been a long time user of the free version and I've updated to 1.7 today (from 1.65). It told me there was a new version to install so I let it and I went through the installer. When it was finished, it told me to restart the system. I don't understand, because the other versions never told me to reboot the system when they updated. This got me a bit suspicous about whether I was using the real Malwarebytes or not. But then I remembered that I got it from CNET so it is the real version.

Also, when I finished with the installer, it didn't ask me to enable the real-time protection trial (the checkboxes). Is this because I haven't enabled the real-time protection on the previous version and it noticed that and didn't ask again?

CCleaner reports that I have Malwarebyes installed, so it must be the real deal.

Another thing to note is that when I installed Malwarebytes 1.7 to another computer (clean install, MBAM wasn't installed on it before), it never asked for a reboot when the installer was done, so why did it ask me to reboot on my other computer when upgrading?

Sorry, I know I'm paranoid but you've got to be if you're going to survive on the internet ;) . I look forward to your answers.

Yes, on some systems this particular version update DOES require a reboot, so that it can change the right-click context menu icon in Windows Explorer.

I can dig up the reference post by forum mod Exile360, if you need it, but yes, that's OK.

I had to reboot both of my rigs that were running 1.65; the 3rd one was a clean install, so no reboot was required.

(Some minor version updates don't require a reboot.)

Also, when I finished with the installer, it didn't ask me to enable the real-time protection trial (the checkboxes). Is this because I haven't enabled the real-time protection on the previous version and it noticed that and didn't ask again?

Not sure, but probably.

Personally, I always download and run the full installer, rather than updating from within the program.

The wizard asks during setup if one wants to "enable the protection module" (there is a box to tic, so perhaps you missed it?).

CCleaner reports that I have Malwarebyes installed, so it must be the real deal.

If you're not comfortable with CNET, there are other mirror sites: http://helpdesk.malw...es-anti-malware

Sometimes it takes a day or two for them to get the new version.

So, you can always get it from the forum links here: http://forums.malwar...howtopic=120085 or from the newsletter.

See my reply above.

It asked for a reboot on the rig already running MBAM so that it could change the context menu icon in Windows Explorer.

No need to apologize -- we're all here to stay safe and to learn. :)

You're most welcome!

P.S: The icon is supposed to change right? It's like the company logo (bluish) now, not like it was before (reddish "M").

New Features:

1. New program logo and icons

Yep, the program color scheme now matches the corporate and forum website colors. :)
