Internet security for beginners?

Hi guys im new here , i have recently become interested in internet security and want to learn how i can be safe while using the internet.

any tips would be greatly appreciated =)

also if you guys belong to any other forums regarding internet security and you would like to share would also be cool

One question i would like to ask is how safe is it to download torrents? Once i download it and run a virus scan does that guarantee it safe?

right now im using malwarebytes and avg

I would also like to ask some questions regarding IP addresses , im sure its not difficult for someone who is skilled to obtain a targets IP address but can they really do something with it?

I apologise if these questions sound stupid , im pretty paranoid when it comes to internet thing , i even got worries when i seen the new malwarebytres logo and thought it was some kind of virus , i googled it and this is how i found this forum=)
