two listings for Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I installed v1.70 last night.

Looking at one of the XP computers running MBAM Pro, I have two folders

mbam_folders.jpg

The one with the (3) behind it has 3 items in it: mbam(2).dll, mbamnet(2).dll and mbamservice(2).exe and is version 1.51.1.0

Is it okay to erase this folder? It doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs, the Uninstall under Tools in CCleaner or Revo Uninstaller.

Hi, plodr: :)

Not sure about WinXP, but you didn't mention if this was an "on-top" upgrade or a clean install?

Until someone more expert comes along, I would probably suggest a clean reinstall.

That ought to safely remove any remnants of previous installations.

Steps are below.

Let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks,

----------------------

MBAM Clean Install

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).

You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.

Location for Windows x86

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Location for Windows x64

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you cannot locate your registration in the Registry and no longer have access to your order number, you can contact Cleverbridge to obtain information about your order and registration information:
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the system tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Actually I got a popup telling me that a new version of MBAM was downloaded and would be installed. I let it do the install, with no interference on my part.

The other three computers (XP and 7) I downloaded and installed myself. These are a combo of the free and Pro versions. I've checked two of them and they do not have the extra folder.

It does sound like some previous version "leftovers" (in fact, since you have a folder and a folder(3), that suggests you probably had a folder(2), as well, at some point).

In any event, the safest way to clean this up and get a good install is to follow the steps for the clean install.

It will only take a few minutes.

Erased the folder I didn't want, ran CCleaner twice to be sure it removed things pointing to non-existent things and rebooted.

Then I installed v 1.70 from the USB stick. I activated my version and did a quick scan. It found the two items I had in my ignore list so I'm back to where I was with 1.70 and the folder I wanted gone is gone.

Just reporting so that anyone who thinks the mbam cleanup tool will remove everything - it doesn't always appear to do this for some reason.

Was this a non-default installation, by any chance?

Or perhaps it was the same XP rig with which you previously had some issues (http://forums.malwar...ndpost&p=511356 and http://forums.malwar...ndpost&p=511355)?

Perhaps one of the experts will be able to shed some light on what you were experiencing.

Anywho...

Glad it's working OK and the zombie folder is gone. :)

Thanks for the update,

daledoc1
