Protection is disabled after upgrading Malwarebytes Pro to the latest version

Recommended Posts

I have just upgraded Malwarebytes Pro to version 1.70.0.1100, now it says under the Protection tab that protection is disabled. The start protection module with Windows is enabled, but still displays Protection disabled.

The operating system I am running is Windows 7, the anti-virus software I am running is Kaspersky Internet Security, I am also running Spybot Search and Destroy.

Could someone please help me with this?

Hello and welcome, camille73:

The first thing to try would be a clean reinstall of MBAM PRO -- directions follow below.

The other thing I would mention is that Spybot S&D is listed as incompatible with KIS: http://support.kaspe...?qid=208286577.

So, that could be causing some clashes.

(In fact, I'm surprised that you've been able to run KIS + MBAM PRO with spybot S&D (especially if you've had the Tea Timer feature activated), without lockups or conflicts with KIS.)

FWIW I haven't yet upgraded 1 of my 3 rigs to MBAM 1.70, but the two I did update earlier this evening are running KIS + MBAM PRO 1.70 just fine.

Anyway, try the clean upgrade, taking care to follow the instructions carefully -- including the requested reboots -- and let us know if that resolves your issue.

Thanks,

MBAM Clean Install

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).

You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.

Location for Windows x86

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Location for Windows x64

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you cannot locate your registration in the Registry and no longer have access to your order number you can contact Cleverbridge to obtain information about your order and registration information:
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the system tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Thanks for that information, I am now back in protection mode with Malwarebytes Pro.

I didn't understand about exclusions with Kaspersky Internet Security. I couldn't find any help on Kaspersky's exclusions in that link you provided. Do you know how to add an exclusion to Kaspersky? If not, I will see if I can find that information needed on Kaspersky's website.

Hi:

There are several ways to add exclusions to KIS (2012 and 2013 are about the same), from the settings, either through "Application Control" or via "Threats and Exclusions".

Check out this recent reply in another topic: http://forums.malwar...ndpost&p=626594 -- it contains some relevant links to the KL support pages with illustrated tutorials, e.g.:

http://support.kaspe...l?qid=208286043

http://support.kaspe...l?qid=208286718

And I would personally ditch Spybot S&D; if you really must keep it, be sure to disable Tea Timer, as KIS + MBAM PRO will provide excellent realtime protection.

Cheers,
