Maurice Nagger - HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey Maurice,

My computer completely crashed. I am contacting you via my son's computer. My computer seemed to be doing fantastic, Then, out of nowhere today, the message "Windows explorer has quit working" popped up, followed by "Windows is searching for a solution to the problem" along with the spinning blue ring. I could not do anything on the computer at all other than shut it down. When the computer came back on, same messages appeared again, so I shut down and came back in Safe Mode to try to go back to a restore point. However, even though I know there were restore points established in the work you and I had done earlier, Windows did not recognize any, My only option was to restore to the manufacturer settings.

I copied all of my personal files to a USB drive, then clicked to restore to original settings. Once it showed 100% completion and the computer rebooted, I got a blue screen message saying there was an error, that "TARGET_MLD_TOO_SMALL". The computer was completely locked up and wouldn't do anything other than alow me to turn it off. Big mistake on my part (I assume) because now it is on a black screen that says:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software changemight be the cause. To fix the problem: 1) Insert Windows installation disc and restart computer. 2) Choose your language settings, then click "Next." 3) Click "Repair your computer" If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status:OxcOOOOOOf INfo: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

My questions for you: Does this mean the original Windows 7 pre-loaded on my computer was corrupt? I do NOT have the installation disc from when I bought the computer, other than trying to contact the manufacturer, is there anything else I can do? If I went out and bought Windows to install myself, would the problem be solved? Would it create other problems with the original settings? What does this all do to my McAfee?

Thanks so much in advance for your help! I just figured you might have a better understanding since you spent nearly 3 weeks working on Windows issues on that computer recently.

Sorry to hear that your system is now in this condition.

I would urge you to contact your computer-manufacturer about getting a replacement Windows operating system CD/DVD.

I would also urge you to take your system to a local reputable (small) computer repair shop {not BigBox store} and to have them do the work for you, if it is economical. You had indicated that you are a true computer novice, so better get some local expert help.

If you did purchase Windows 7, you would wind up doing a new clean install, and you'd have to follow up with doing new installations of all your programs, including obviously the Antivirus.

Thanks, you can't imagine how upset I am. The only place I have ever taken a computer to before to get a repair done was Staples. Even the little mom and pop type small places around me charge a small fortune to work on these things. I'll try to call Acer after the holiday to see if they will send me a replacement CD. If they won't send it because I don't have some obscure number off the computer box they might need, I don't know what I'll do. You are a godsend, though! I hope your holiday is extra special :)
