GeorgCantor Posted December 24, 2012 ID:626519 Share Posted December 24, 2012 I seem to have a conflict at startup between Kaspersky Internet Suite and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes issues "Shell Notify icon: Failure to perform desi9red action. error code 2." I think this is a result of very recently installing Kaspersky 2013. But even under Kaspersky 2012, startup was excessively slow,, and Malwarebytes always had to be shut dwon manually at shutdown. How do I tell Malwarebytes to leave Kaspersky alone, and how do I tell Kasprsky to leave Malwarebytes alone? Thank you!
daledoc1 Posted December 24, 2012 ID:626594 Share Posted December 24, 2012 Hello and welcome, GeorgCantor:I am just a home user of both KIS and MBAM PRO.I have no problems running KIS and MBAM PRO on 3 rigs (although I haven't yet upgraded to KIS2013 on 2 of them). As far as adding KIS to the MBAM Ignore list, just open the MBAM GUI > Ignore List tab > Add > Navigate to and select the KL folder (see attached).I have not found it necessary to manually add MBAM to the KIS exclusions list with either KIS2012 or KIS2013, but after installing MBAM you'll want to confirm that KIS has assigned MBAM to the Trusted group via Applications Control; it should do so by default. You can also go in and manually add all the exclusions, just to be sure (this is just one way to do that):Open KIS > General Settings > Application Control > Applications > expand the Malwarebytes list (there will be 6 listed files/services) > Right-click each one > Application Rules > Exclusions tab > Check each of the items > OK > OK > Apply > OK.Repeat for each of the 6 MBAM entries.Additional info here: http://support.kaspe.../?qid=208286718 and here: http://support.kaspe...kis2013?level=1It's also important when upgrading KIS from 2012 to 2013 to do a CLEAN upgrade, rather than installing 2013 on top of 2012: http://forum.kaspers...showtopic=67812If you did an on-top upgrade of KIS2012 to KIS2013, I would recommend that you uninstall both versions and cleanly install 2013.It's a bit of overkill and shouldn't be strictly necessary with the current version of both programs, but I've used the method described in this sticky topic several times in the past with good results: http://forums.malwar...howtopic=113443(I will use it again when I upgrade my other 2 rigs from 2012 to 2013 in the next few days.)HTH,daledoc1
GeorgCantor Posted December 25, 2012 Author ID:626752 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Thank you. That certainly seems to cover the issue. I'll work through this & see what results.
GeorgCantor Posted December 26, 2012 Author ID:626886 Share Posted December 26, 2012 I have read Daledoc1's response. I did a clean reinstall of KIS2013 and MBAM, in the recommended manner.Regarding the paragraph beginning "I have not found it necessarty" ... I still would prefer to addKIS to the MBAM ignore list, and MBAM to the KIs exclsusion list. Is the procedure in that paragraph complete?Or is there more? The last pragraph links to an article by Skywriter, of which the last paragraph links to MBAM topic 10138, which has too much information; I did not see a procedure for KIS there. Skywriter also says: "or ask us" So I am sking (or is the answer already in the first post by daledoc1, as referred to above?)Thank you. Another issue, which I sent to MBAM support (with my cleverbridge ref. no.): my product ID and key are not now recognized, although i paid only a few weeks ago, and they were previously recognized.. GeorgCantor Posted December 26, 2012 Author ID:626887 Share Posted December 26, 2012 PS. I am attepting to add KIS to tjhe MBAM IGNORE LIST. . I click on ADD. I browse to the Kaspersky Lab folder But clicking on ADD does not put the Kaspersky Lab file into the ignore list. What now?(KIS protection is still suspended.) GeorgCantor Posted December 26, 2012 Author ID:626890 Share Posted December 26, 2012 More trouble:1. KISdoes not list Malwaebytes int the trusted applications list. Many other applications are listed. what next? so KIS dies not recognize aMBAM as trusted 9or noty trusted, fort that matter), nor can i add KIS to the MBAM igonre list. 2. Malwarebytes seems to be running, although i just got a message that i am not protected because free license has expired 9whihc implies that BMBAM is not running full time.e anyeway, ewven though iyt did not ask for the ID and codew. smething is screwy with BBAM subscription handling.Frankly, i am running out of patience with all this. GeorgCantor Posted December 26, 2012 Author ID:626895 Share Posted December 26, 2012 For "laughs",I had sent an inquiry to Malwarebytes support Ithat was not for laughs; then a friend told me to consult this forum). I told them that i had removed ther program becasue it conflicted with KIS on startup. They responded that they wanted data. I replied that they had ignored my information that i had removed the program (MBAM). They responded: "who told you to remove the program. We want data." I did not respond.as to the product ID & key, the support line automatically rewferes me to cleverbirdge. But the last time this happened (a few weeksa ago) , cleverbridge referred me to Malwarebytes. we'll see what happens this time. I don't have the whole new year to play arounbd with this $25 program
GeorgCantor Posted December 26, 2012 Author ID:626918 Share Posted December 26, 2012 It gets worse. Tryinmg to open MBAM (with KIS running) freezes the machine so badly that even CTRL-ALT-DeL won't work. Needed to power dwon manually.A few restarts, and i could popen the browqser, to report this. also, i get the message that my frreee trial has expired. Also, as i open the browser, I get tyhe message NkMc2 has failed to start, repoprt to MS. This had been happening daily. My intent on getting back into the machiner is to run MBAM-CLEAN again.i notice that the MBAM has really been installed, by looking at :\program files.... however, as i said, KIS does not identify the program. Also, in tryin g to ADD KIS to the ignore list in MBAM, the ADD function appeared gray. npotice that KIS was disabled when i installed MBAM.Also, I cannot recognize MBAM-CLEAN from any of the files in the MBAM foillderr, so I need to download it again. CWB Posted December 26, 2012 ID:626943 Share Posted December 26, 2012 hmmm ...at one time i ran MB and kaspersky together ... no problems , they played nice together .that asides ...it may be best to stop trying "this-n-that" until you get someone from support to walk you through the steps .there are nuances involved along the way that will change what needs to be done and to find out where things are going awry .someone should be along to help you with this problem or point you in the right direction .(holidays are rough ... tech support for many companies is overloaded , even the servers for the linux OS update software were bogged down !) daledoc1 Posted December 26, 2012 ID:626952 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Yes, I agree with CWB. >>>The steps I described and the stickies for which I provided the links contained sufficient information for installing & running both MBAM PRO and KIS, and for setting up the mutual exclusions between MBAM and KIS/KAV.It could be a bit confusing, especially if you are new to both programs. It might help to print out, read through and then carefully follow the steps. However, if you're having trouble with all of that, then it would be best to wait for expert help.If you have a paid license for MBAM PRO, you may wish instead to get help from the support team at the helpdesk. They can be reached here: Contact Customer SupportPlease reference this topic by including this link when you create your request:http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=119943(There is also a KL user forum and KL helpdesk. However, to minimize confusion, I would suggest getting expert help in only one place at a time. So, I would wait for expert help here at the MBAM forum or helpdesk, as you have already started the process.)>>>As far as your MBAM license ID and key not being recognized, I would check carefully to be sure that you are entering both numbers (the ID and key) correctly. If that doesn't resolve it, then the license issue is something only the reseller, Cleverbridge, can sort out (assuming you purchased your MBAM online). The ID & key would have been in the email from Cleverbridge.https://store.malwar...2/?scope=cusecoIf you didn't print out that email or write down the info somewhere, then you may obtain assistance with this directly from Cleverbridge:cs@cleverbridge.comPhone: +1-866-522-6855Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (CST)Also, their contact info can be found here. When you get the email, please print it out & keep it somewhere handy, JIC.If you purchased MBAM in a box, then the license ID and key will be in there, instead.>>>Also, you wrote:Also, I cannot recognize MBAM-CLEAN from any of the files in the MBAM foillderr,....Mbam-clean is a small, separate utility used to cleanly uninstall mbam.It is not part of mbam program and wouldn't be in that folder. It can be downloaded from HERE. Just save it somewhere on your computer (desktop, downloads folder, etc), and then run it.It will ask for a reboot (system restart) after it runs -- be sure to do this, as it's an important step. Thanks for your patience,daledoc1
