bck/Nethief.XR?

Recommended Posts

I use Malwarebytes several times a week to supplement my NIS. Every so often, I also run a Panda Activescan, whose fucntionality can be debated, I suppose, but which I generally trust as not trying to scam me because it has never come up with anything worse than a cookie. Today I ran both. The Malwarebytes scan came up clean, but the Panda scan came up with the virus bck/Nethief.XR as being present on my computer. I cannot find anything online anywhere about this virus or how to remove it other than the Panda software says it is a backdoor that is inactive and can be removed, but does not tell me how. Any thoughts woudl be appreciated.

Hi, ericm: :)

Welcome.

It sounds as if it could be a False Positive detection by Panda Activescan.

However, it's impossible to say without more information.

If you think it could be a FP by Panda, then you might want to report it to the folks at Panda.

OTOH, if you think you might be infected and/or you would like expert help checking your machine for possible malware, please follow the steps listed in this sticky topic: Available Assistance
