Stubborn Ransomware

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so I apologize if this question has been beaten into the ground!

Yesterday while I was browsing the internet, I got the FBI Ransomware virus - the screen locked up with a warning from "The Department of Justice" and my webcam turned on. I tried to open Task Manager to close the window, but the virus would close down Task Manager immediately. I was lucky in that I was able to reboot into Safe Mode with Networking and download the free version of Malwarebytes. After a scan, the program detected Trojan.Ransom and a file starting with "A" that according to my research has been associated with Ransomware (I apologize that I'm not able to give the file name - I'm at work right now and not near the infected computer). I also ran McAfee, Windows Defender, and HitmanPro 3 - each program was able to remove "potential threats."

The problem, though, is that each time I reboot my computer and perform a Malwarebytes scan, Trojan.Ransom and the other file are detected. According to the scan logs, there are several copies of Trojan.Ransom in quarantine, which makes me think that there may be a file that is creating a copy of the files each time they are removed.

At this point, what is my best option? I've tried several times to perform a System Restore, but each time I get the error message telling me that the System Restore was not successful (usually because McAfee installer).

Any help you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
