We are screwed!' Fonts eat a bullet in Microsoft security patch

Eternal vigilance is the price of wingdings

Windows users were surprised to find that a Microsoft security update stopped fonts from working on their PCs.

Security update KB2753842 has killed certain fonts on PCs where it has been installed, rendering many of them unusable, and causing problems for designers and businesses who rely on using the types in their work.

Intended to cover a weakness in the OpenType Compact Font Format (CFF) driver, the update was marked "high priority" but many users have uninstalled it because it causes many fonts to stop working. (More...)

I had to do a system restore on one of my pc's after the update. Would not even boot back into windows, :angry2: , After SR, had to use Chameleon to put Mbam back right(rules.ref had been deleted) but all good now. Still got that update pending. Gonna go hide that culprit right now.

Thank YOU Steve !!!!!!!

Hey Randy,

Don't feel bad.. I couldn't even get into command line OR SAFE mode to do a system restore on my wife's WinVista that had been upgraded to Win7. I had to reinstall WinVISTA on hers (only backup media I had) and then upgrade to Win7 (had one of those free Vista upgrade to Win7 deals from way back when) as Win7 was an upgrade and not a bootable full install. So the two days before my 69th birthday (which no one remembered this 17th - *snif*) was spent trying to restore, then finally installing systems on hers - All so she could get on AOL and Facebook.. (*BLAM* shot to the head!!)
