Compaq Presario car reader problems

My Compaq Presario running XP SP3 has just come back from the repairers and the card reader isn't working.

When I put the card reader in the PC's MMC/SD slot it does not click down as I'm used to although the slot's light comes on but nothing happens on the screen.

I have tried 2 cards. In my laptops these come up as Removable Disk with a letter or sometimes SD Disk. There is nothing on my PC.

Thanks for help

Sounds like the repair guy forgot to hook up a few wires, take it back and tell him to fix it right. Lite not lighting up when you stick a SD Disk in, is a good indication something isn't hooked up Correctly.

Thanks but the light does come on and they've replaced the card reader twice already.

hmmm ...

the last time you picked up the comp did they tell you "yep , it's fixed" ?

take it back to them one more time ... bring along a card so you can show them what is happening .

after they look at it again ... when you pick up the comp have them show you that it is indeed working (with your card) .

in the past , they charged you good money to repair the comp and as such should stand behind their word/workmanship with no additional cost to you .

additional personal thoughts (only) :

if they fail in actually repairing the problem(s) that you took the machine in for when they stated that "all is ok" when you picked it up ...

you might think about getting your money back .

also , i find it hard to believe that after replacing the card reader twice that there is/would be a problem .

while problems can be intermittent in nature , usually they will rear their head if given a little time and doing as the owner of the machine does (say , putting in your cards in the reader) .

on the first "call back" (the first time you returned with the comp with the same problem) it would have caused me to go through things with a fine toothed comb , redouble my efforts to make darn good and sure that the machine was fixed .

Get an external USB Card reader. They (such as SanDisk) make 12-in-1 memory card readers that read a variety of different memory cards. I also use a Compact Flash to PCMCIA card. The point is if you are having so much trouble with the embedded Card Reader in the Compaq, bypass it all together as there are "other" options.
