An idea just popped in when I was doing some research. It would be great if MBAM could calculate the amount of folders/files ahead of time and give an estimated scan time. This way we can let it run and come back to it when we think it would be done rather then periodically checking in on it. Especially us laptop/netbook users we may not want to run it for too long when not in use.

I don't think the number of files and folders is a sufficient determinant of how long a scan takes. You're assuming that each file and folder takes the same time to scan, and also that the program knows how long it takes for it to scan each file.

Edit: If then you decide to take the average size, then the program is essentially wasting time calculating instead of scanning, in my opinion.

Hi D.S.K -

You are thinking more along the lines of Spybot, where the scan is limited to certain infections only.

Once this scans for a certain infection / bot, it is fotgotten, and the scan moves to the next infection / bot on the system.

By doing this the "running bar" can show where in the scanning process the program is up to, and that infection, not file, is deemed clear.

As I "basically" understand it (remember I am an idiot) -

MBAM and similar programs (SAS etc) run through each folder / file and then to the next folder / file and rescans again each time.

It also looks for the .exe files that have not yet run, and decides if they are PUPs or otherwise.

A simple idea where a system, like mine, is about 90% free space on 4G RAM but my type of systems are rare in the real world -

I review all installed programs, and constantly delete anything via Windows Explorer that I am not using, or will not use soon.

Even to delete ChicaFix meant Registry Removal, it sticks like s***, like UniBlue, and similar - I hope it is now all gone
