Auto delaying MALWAREBYTES

Recommended Posts

I've had internet connection problems for sometime,ie having to restart my pc 2 or 3 times before getting a connection.I tried various solutions without success.Recently a friend suggested that my microsoft security essentials might be conflicting with the Malwarebytes protection.

If I changed the startup type to automatic(delayed) would this affect my protection?

Many thanks

Recently a friend suggested that my microsoft security essentials might be conflicting with the Malwarebytes protection.

Hi, rupert123:

Welcome. :)

To address your original concern, MBAM and MSE ought not to be "conflicting".

MBAM is tested to run just fine with MSE, and many of our forum members run that combination.

In fact, MSE is one of the free AVs personally recommended by one of our forum mods here: Free Antivirus Recommendations

On some systems, users find that setting mutual exclusions between MBAM and MSE helps to optimize performance.

Instructions how to do this for many of the more popular AVs can be found in the FAQ section and I've added a "generic" set of instructions below, as well.

From what you describe, your problem sounds more like something related to your network adapter, or perhaps a cluttered startup folder, your ISP, etc, rather than a clash between MBAM and MSE.

As far as your last question, yes, I AFAIK, setting MBAM protection to delayed start will affect your protection.

However, we'll see if the MBAM staff have anything more specific to say on that.

Please post back and let us know if setting the exclusions helps, or not.

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software (I'm not sure what AV and what version of Windows you are using):

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ mbamscheduler.exe

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware \ mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products
