In the case of having two security programs installed, if a threat is detected, which product secures it?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to ask something that I've always wondered about . . .

If I have two security programs installed (for example, an anti-virus program and Malwarebytes Pro [with its real-time protection enabled]) and if I, say, visit an infected website, what happens if both programs simultaneously detect the same infection?

What happens in that case?

Will both programs "fight" for it? And if so, how is it decided which program will be the one to actually quarantine it?

LOL . . . I'm picturing two NFL teams fighting for a fumbled ball under a pile of players.

Greetings :)

This actually can't happen. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware by design will not detect a threat at the same time as your antivirus. Your antivirus scans items on access, meaning before they ever try to execute, Malwarebytes does not scan an item until it attempts to execute so if Malwarebytes sees the threat, it is only because it got past your antivirus.

That was a good question! I have actually thought about it to what was going to happen if this case occurs. Like mentioned in the previous post i guess that the only time this could happen is when the Antivirus program has failed to stop the threat in the first place.
