I ran malwarebytes fo first time and did not pick up any objects which surprised me because my computer has been running slow. I then ran norton antivirus and it fixed 64 tracking cookies.

Is malwarebytes suppose to pick up tracking cookies? Computer still running slow.

Hi, remove:

No, MBAM doesn't scan for tracking cookies because they are not malware.

Your AV or another application would be needed for that, such as SuperAntiSpyware.

Slow computers can be caused by a number of problems, including infection.

Thanks for reference to slow pc fixes. My windows 7 for some reason won't defrag from windows accessories so I was glad to try the notepad but that wouldn't work either. Windows actually tells me that the computer is 11% fragmented. Do you think that is enough to cause slow down and if so should I download one of the freeware defrag programs? Thanks

Thanks for reference to slow pc fixes. My windows 7 for some reason won't defrag from windows accessories so I was glad to try the notepad but that wouldn't work either. Windows actually tells me that the computer is 11% fragmented. Do you think that is enough to cause slow down and if so should I download one of the freeware defrag programs? Thanks

Can you click on the Orb and in the search bar type disk defragmenter and find the program to click on. Will that work?

Disk c was 1% fragmented and D was 0 but System is 11% fragmented. I am able and did defragment the d drive but I can not defrag system .

I don't think that I have recently updated drivers. Strangely surfing the net is zipping right now since defragging c drive which was only fragmented at 1%.

Why would I be able to defrag c and not system?

C: drive usually can not be defraged while its online because files are in use. Usually the defrag has to be done on the next reboot.

Since you are using windows 7, Defrag should be running automatically from time to time.

Have you installed SP1 for windows 7 yet?

To best determine if your disks need defragmenting, you need to firt analyze your disks.

My note: There is a picture of msft flag in front of c drive above. There are two little rectanular grey boxes in front of hp recovery and system. Also the c disk was 1% fragmented but I was able to defrag today and the fragmentation was cleared.

it is possible that its that way because you have a restore partition that is hidden and not showing on the list of drives.

I would not worry about that, and I do not mean the windows restore points. What I mean is a hidden partition that comes with most computers these days so you can do a factory restore.

This seems to have been my computer problem all along.

I deleted the graphic drivers and installed latest and things seem to be ok at least for now.

A little hint here. Start menu type> drivers into search box. go to > change device installations settings

Make sure you have > checked > No , let me choose what to do

and > Never install device driver software from Microsoft update.

Windows update for drivers cannot be trusted as they may be old versions or have other problems.

You should only use driver updates from the hardware vendor.
