Can't find address

Recommended Posts

Hello and :welcome:

Please do the following and let us know if this corrects the issue for you or not.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.
      Location for Windows x86

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

      Location for Windows x64

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Thanks for your assistance.

I have run the cleaner and reinstalled as suggested.I must admit that i forgot to disable the AV.

However automatic updates ran as soon as i finished the installation.I have also done the registration and there is an icon in the task tray.

I will monitor the updates for the next few days and report back.

Regards.

Firefox.

Just to report that it updated when i booted this Morning. It has never done that before.

In addition to Firefox's expert advice...

Just a thought -- there *is* an updater setting option to check for updates on reboot (see screenshot).

You don't have that option selected, by any chance, do you?

Or perhaps you just happened to restart the computer at approximately the same time that you have an update scheduled, and with your "recover if missed by..." setting, MBAM was just either doing a scheduled update or was "recovering" to make up for a missed update?

(For the past couple of program versions, scheduled updates are designed to occur at any time during a 30-minute window that starts 15 minutes BEFORE the scheduled time and ends 15 minutes AFTER the scheduled time. So, for example, an update scheduled for 08:00 AM can occur any time between 07:45 and 08:15. This is by design.)

Just a thought, :)

I found it strange because it has never happened before.

I normally start my computer at about the same time every Morning and after about 1 hour Malwarebytes updates.

The problem was that very intermittantly it wouldn't update because the address could not be found as i reported in my inital post.

Not being able to find the address could happen at any time.Morning,Noon or Night.

Anyway so far today it has updated perfectly.

Regards.

Update is set to hourly.

Address not found is a fairly common issue experienced if an update attempt runs at boot. This is because often times the network connection is not ready when the update attempts to run.

If it also occurs throughout the day even when the computer has been running for a while, then it is possible that the computer is having intermittent connectivity issues resulting in the updater not being able to reach the internet. You should be able to check the logs in your router if you use one and it should show your connection uptime and possibly when your computer connected and disconnected from the internet or network (some routers show this info in their logs, others do now).

I hope that helps.

Yes.

Your suggestion had occoured to me mainly because sometimes when i am listening to to an internet broadcast i loose the connection(signal).

Although the problem never seems to occur with updates for my AV(Avast) and my router dosen't indicate that there has been a loss of signal

It would also explain why the update problem only happens intermittently.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Regards
