OK, I tested that disk and it won't do what we want.

You have to make the OTLPE disk.

There's two ways to do it:

First > download a fresh copy from here to your desktop:

http://oldtimer.geek...om/OTLPEStd.exe

Put a blank cd-r in your burner

Now double click on OTLPEStd.exe

It will ask you if you want to burn a cd > click Yes

It will extract the files and ImgBurn will open

Click the arrow to burn > left bottom of the window

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another way to burn it is to copy OTLPE.exe to a folder
Right click on OTLPE.exe to extract it
I use 7-Zip to unzip it:
http://www.7-zip.org/
It will unzip and you have 3 files:
  1. ImgBurn.exe
  2. ImgBurn.ini
  3. OTLPE_New_Std.iso
Put a blank cd-r in your burner and double click on OTLPE_New_Std.iso
Active ISO Burner will open and start to burn the cd
Let me know, MrC
Navigate to this folder (date) <-------it will be the date you created the backup > something like 10-3-12
C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\(date)\ERDNT.exe
and run or double click on ERDNT.exe
That will start the process to restore the registry > keep the default settings
When it's done > exit OTLPE and reboot > see if it boots up.
Great news! ERDNT reloaded the registry and I was able to get into Windows! Should I try SafeBootKey now?
Great. I'm not sure what you mean by this:
Should I try SafeBootKey now?
Just try to boot into safe mode for now, MrC
I meant SafeBootKeyRepair. When I try to boot into Safe Mode, I get that same old error message.
I forgot I already did SafeBootKeyRepair. Should I do Windows Repair instead. That's what we were working on before I screwed up the registry.
That looks OK > lease run ComboFix as outlined below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please download and run ComboFix.

The most important things to remember when running it is to disable all your malware programs and run Combofix from your desktop.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.

Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.

Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

I don't think its worth continuing unless you think that some documents or iTunes might be infected. I was thinking I was just going to save them and then upload it to the new operating system

Didn't work. Do we have to do anything else? Will my documents be infected?

I can't think of anything else right now.

Will my documents be infected?

No, the computer is free of malware as far as I can see, MrC
