General question: What percentage of all downloads contain malware?

Hey ho folks!

I always knew what Malwarebytes was but the forum here was something that I had never really looked at. I recently came across it because of a few mentions of a web site (referral logs) I run which I don't plan to mention.

Regardless, I'm working on a very cool project and would like to figure out what percentage of all Internet downloads contain malware/badware (ie. things that benefit a third party as opposed to the actual downloader/host).

Of course it's impossible to give a definitive number, but I'd like to hear about any opinions and/or sources

Good stuff Andem, i hope some of the experts here can help or at least point you in the right direction. The only contribution i can make is that many of the download sites are now adding PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) to the free downloads.

Just to clarify: The referrals I'm seeing in logs come from a thread recommending a page, not reporting it as something malicious!
