Vista-64 login page freezes after malwarebytes upgrade/reboot

I did one of the automatic Malwarebytes pro upgrades, and during the boot-startup sequence:

The system boots properly, Vista loads, and then freezes at the login page.

- mouse works, in that the icons change color when clicked, but nothing happens.

- little clock icon at lower left is frozen

- for safe mode boot, it does the same

- for safe mode with command prompt, the same (get a frozen login window)

- I tried booting from Vista CD: system recovery doesn't work

Any suggestions short of reinstalling Vista?

Slow down a bit, Don.

What is the "title" on the Vista CD ? Does it indicate the full operating system CD? or does it happen to be marked "factory restore" ?

Who is the manufacturer of your pc ?

That aside, I think it is well-worth that you try to restart the system in Safe mode or Safe mode with Networking ....

to see if you can just load Vista in a reduced manner. If so, then you can logoff and Restart once more in Normal mode.

See this as a small reference VISTA system recovery options

I opened a support ticket with Tom Mercado (#270557). The computer is out of my hands now as I took it to a friend's shop. (I built the system, using the oem version of Windows Vista home premium, 64 bit.) He's checking the boot disk to see if there are any disk errors that might be affecting the start. I'll keep Tom posted in case there are any issues pertinent to Malwarebytes. Thanks for your help.
