Need to make Update Program more efficient

Was told before that the update program and its use of processor cycles is due to Windows 7. So how is it that I can watch AVG update run with twice as many data input and it runs in a fraction of the time? No its not Windows 7 but more likely the update program. I mean we are talking 100% CPU for 5 to 10 minutes.

Greetings :)

This behavior is specific to the API's within Windows 7 which we are currently using for updating the list of IP addresses in our database which is used for blocking malicious websites. We currently have a new version, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.65 in beta testing here which eliminates the CPU spikes when updates are performed on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
