detsi Posted September 3, 2012 ID:593019 Share Posted September 3, 2012 Hi, is OTL comparable with MBAM (free) ? and if so is there any advantage in having both installed ?Thanks in advance for your response.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted September 3, 2012 Root Admin ID:593021 Share Posted September 3, 2012 No OTL is a tool used by Experts to scan your system looking for Malware and is not a tool designed to do automatic detection and removal like Malwarebytes is.There is no reason to keep OTL installed if you're not infected. daledoc1 Posted September 3, 2012 ID:593022 Share Posted September 3, 2012 Hi, detsi: EDIT: OOPS! Looks as if forum Admin AdvancedSetup beat me to it, with a more expert reply. I'm just a home user (not a malware expert), but OTL is a specialized, powerful tool that is only used on-demand in order to clean infections and other problems. While it has a scanning function, the special scripts needed to remove infections must be written by a qualified malware expert. The use of such a tool (like Combofix and many other malware removal tools) should only be undertaken with expert assistance. So, no, it is not comparable to MBAM and there would be no point in having OTL installed on one's computer.I'm sure the more expert members will be able to elaborate further.
