Hello All, and thank you for reading my post. I contracted the "FILE RECOVERY VIRUS", which thanks in part to MBAM, I recovered from. I still have a few symptoms occurring that I am in the process of trying to clean-up.

The reason I am posting (finally), is this, when I first realized I was infected, I re-started computer, and ran MBAM, (the free version), there were many other actions performed, which I will spare you the details of now. Every time since then, when Windows 7 (64 bit) has started, I get a Malwarebytes Anti-

Malware window with the message [OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 2.

I just upgraded to MBAM Pro, but still receive the Error Code upon start-up.

Any insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated. I am attaching a snap shot of the error code message, hope it helps.post-117085-0-62219800-1345828128.jpg Thanking all in advance.

Please do the following and let us know if this corrects the issue for you or not.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.
      Location for Windows x86

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

      Location for Windows x64

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Hello, and thank you for your help. I followed your instructions, and everything was well until I went to settings, then under Scheduler Settings, upon opening tab, I received the error message (see attachment)post-117085-0-29754300-1345836368.jpg. Soon after I received the Error Code 2 window again.

Thanks again for your help, I await your instruction.

If you're still getting this error then I'd have to think either your Anti-Virus exclusions are not setup correctly or that you may possibly have some infection blocking the product.

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

  • Root Admin

You have a few services also having issues. Not sure if it's hardware/software at this time but I would like to scan your system for a possible infection but we do not perform malware scanning and detection in this forum.

Please contact the help desk and ask for me and I'll assist you further from there. We are currently a bit swamped so it may take a little longer than normal before I can get to you.

Cheers
