Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro from Cleverbridge

Recommended Posts

I just purchased Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro from Cleverbridge yesterday. The download link is mbam-consumer.exe and the link expires on 8/26/2012. The free download link on the main website is mbam-setup-1.62.0.1300.exe. Is there a binary difference between mbam-consumer.exe and mbam-setup-1.62.0.1300.exe? I have not purchased the extended download service or the backup CD with my original purchase.

HI; :)

I think they should be the same binary, but AdvancedSetup or one of the other staffers can answer that definitively.

So long as you have your license ID and key from Cleverbridge (per your original topic), you can always download the most current version of the program for free from the main download link after your individual link expires. :)

Here are the basic instructions:

  • Download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to activate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer and verify that MBAM is in the system tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

I tried mbam-consumer.exe from Cleverbridge and the only difference in the Cleverbridge version is that there is no start the free trial option as the free downloadable version does. Is it worth the extra $6 for the extended download service for the non-trial installer. The Cleverbridge download link expires in two weeks. I already printed the license ID and key and the receipt from Cleverbridge.

Hi:

Thanks for posting back with the update. :)

AFAIK, the only significant virtue of the extended download link would be for those folks who prefer not to use the official mirror sites.

As long as one has one's ID/key and a computer than can access the internet, downloading the current program version from the official mirrors is always the best way to stay current.

So, IMHO -- as just a home user -- no, it's not worth the extra $$.

(Of course, one still needs to update the DEFINITIONS database after any new installation of the program, as the version of the database packaged with the installer will always be a bit outdated.)

Likewise, the main virtue of having a CD would be for the scenario where one needed to reinstall MBAM on a machine without internet access.

Again, the program version on the CD would be outdated after a few months.

However, it would be better than nothing if, for example, one suffered a major computer meltdown/infection causing loss of internet access and one didn't have access to another computer from which to transfer the program & definitions.
