Problems: system clock, USB ports, cursor/pointer delay

Recommended Posts

I have been having 4 laptop problems for a few weeks now, which seemed to all start at the same time.

1. My system clock loses time 10-20 minutes per day (intermittently; sometimes the clock loses no time for a day or two).

2. When I insert USB flash drives, I often, but not always, get an error “USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices has malfunctioned.” This happens with all drives and all USB ports, but sometimes they work fine for a day or two.

3. When I move my cursor/pointer around, sometimes it delays for a fraction of a second to as long as a minute.

4. All my Firefox cookies have been lost a couple times.

I don’t see any unusual processes in my task list. I use ESET Nod32 AV (fully up to date) and have run that several times against my hard drive even from Safe Mode and reports/finds nothing.

I did the Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware yesterday but today I still have the same problems. I am posting DDS-generated files.

Can you please help? Thank you.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Sorry it's taken this long to get to your topic. This definitely doesn't look malware related.

Is that opinion based on the symptoms or did you look at the log??

My laptop was operating good (most symptoms gone) while Malwarebytes was blocking outgoing access attempts... I removed malwarebytes today (trial over) and all the symptoms returned again.

Thanks.

Yes I did read your logs....

It's likely that one of the processes running at startup is to blame.

Click Start --> Run, and type in msconfig.exe

Click the Startup tab, then click Disable all...

Click OK.

Restart your computer and use it normally for a bit, and let me know if the problem persists. If not, that means one or more of your items running on startup are to blame. If the problem still persists, we will attempt other avenues of troubleshooting.

Let me know how it goes.
