Licensing to use at a PC repair shop

Recommended Posts

I've been in the PC repair business for a few years now, but always working for other people. It has come time to strike out on my own and MBAM is essentially the Step 1 of any virus removal service.

However, the EULA of the popular free version states

9. You may not use the Software as part of a service provider or service bureau.

10. You may not use the Software as part of any computer repair, help desk or troubleshooting service, unless you have each customer purchase an individual Full License for each of their respective computers which you repair or otherwise service.

So my question is this; is having the customer purchase the full version the only way to incorporate MBAM into my virus removal service or is there a licensing option for a business to use the removal tool on a yearly basis, or for X number of repairs? I know most 1 man operations just violate the EULA and use it anyway, but it is a great tool and I'd like to support the engineers behind it and also not violate EULAs in my business.

Hi, markevens:

Thanks for your endorsement and for your honesty.

I'm just a home user, so we'll need to wait for an MBAM staffer to reply with specifics about corporate licensing for your situation.

However, I'm pretty sure there are several options.

If you wish, please contact corporate support directly with your inquiry, and they can get you set up.

They can be reached here: http://www.malwareby...pport/corporate

So had to fill out the contact form twice since I never got a response from the first time I filled it out...only to receive a reply that says, "sorry, we can't help you". I have posted my response to the Malwarebytes representative who contacted me. Hopefully it will save other technicians the time and effort.

I am very sorry to hear that you do not support computer technicians. We would very much like to pay to use your product and recommend it to our clients, but you have made it impossible to do so. We are not a big company (we have 2 technicians in a “break-fix” store). Your corporate licensing is not a solution for us. Neither is buying a copy of Malwarebytes for every computer that is brought to us for a virus cleaning. We service between 300-500 customers a year. I know that makes us a small fish to you and so you probably could care less that you won’t be earning our business. But I just felt that you should know that we will no longer recommend your product to anyone, simply because you have cut off computer technicians from being able to legally use your product.

If you should somehow be able to offer an alternative solution, I would be happy to listen. Please forward this email to your supervisor and as high up the chain as you can go, because I am very serious about wanting your company to know how the “little guy” feels about being excluded from being able to use your product.

Regards,
