Hello, tvfan122: :)

With the current version of MBAM (1.62), the 14-day trial of MBAM PRO is enabled by default during installation.

In order to decline that trial, one needs to UN-tick the box during the installation (see screen shot).

Otherwise, the 14-day trial of MBAM PRO will start.

If you don't want MBAM PRO, you can either:

1) Keep the trial for the 14 days and allow it to expire, at which point MBAM will revert to the Free version (on-demand, manual scans only).

or

2) Perform a clean reinstall, opting to UN-check the PRO trial offer during the installation process. For the clean reinstall, follow the steps below.

NOTE: these steps are written only folks who do NOT want to run MBAM PRO.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • -->If you do NOT want the PRO trial, be sure to opt-out when given that option during the installation.
  • Launch the MBAM program.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again.
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

FYI, the PRO version offers many enhancements over the Free version, including (most importantly) real-time protection, as well as incremental database updates and scheduled tasks (updates/scans), as explained here: http://www.malwareby...lwarebytes_free

Hi, tvfan122:

This is only with the most current version, 1.62, which was released only a week or so ago.

I expect that if you don't see that option in the dialog box during the install, then you are probably trying to install an older version of the program???

(There was a free trial of the PRO version in previous versions, but it was an "opt-in" after install, rather than an "opt-out" during install.)

If you follow the steps suggested in my earlier post, the links will take you to the official mirror sites that have the correct, current version of MBAM.

Those are the only sites from which one ought to be downloading the program.

Hello and welcome to Malwarebytes

If you think you are infected, here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make recovery difficult

You have 3 Options that you can choose from as listed below:

  • Option 1 —— Free Expert advice in the Malware Removal Forum
  • Option 2 —— Paying customer -- Contact Support via email
  • Option 3 —— Premium, Fee-Based Support

OPTION 1

As we don't deal with malware removal in the
General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum
, you need to start a topic in the

Malware Removal forum

so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems or infections you may have.
  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Follow this topic and choose Instantly,
so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

NOTE: Please do not post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies.

If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.
