no internet access in normal & safe mode with networking

Recommended Posts

I just encountered this problem today. I started my system with Windows XP after hibernation & it showed no internet connection. My other laptop with windows XP is working fine. I initially had Mc Afee internet security, however, a few days back, I encountered the security shield virus on my system due to which I dowloaded the free version of malware bytes. After scanning the system with malware bytes, the system was working fine till now.

Today, when I tried to fix the internet connection problem, I got a message from McAfee that your computer is at risk because the firewall is off. I scanned the pc with Mcafee & it did not show any virus. Then I started a scan with malware bytes & it showed the version was not updated. I still scanned the system & it identified 7 virus. Once the scan was complete, I selected the option of remove the virus & it showed a pop up message that to remove the virus, the system needs a restart.

After that I tried the safe mode with networking option so that I can download the updated version of malware bytes, however there was no internet connectivity in safe mode as well. I still did a scan & this time it showed 4 virus & post completion of scan again prompted for a system restart for virus removal. This time I did not select the option of system restart & instead selected the quarantine option & deleted the virus results shown. However there is still no internet connectivity in normal or safe mode.

Pls help.
