ZeeBee Posted July 12, 2012 ID:569997 Share Posted July 12, 2012 Hi does anyone know if Open DNS is any good or not? For instance is it safe to use and does it increase net speed and security a lot? The web page says it does but I was looking to hear from people who have used it before to get more information on it.http://www.opendns.com/Thanks in advance for any feedbackZeeBee
RJGoodhouse Posted July 13, 2012 ID:570017 Share Posted July 13, 2012 Yes, OpenDNS is a very good web site, the best for parental Controls also. They have both Free Service and paid Services, depending on the level of control you want.
David H. Lipman Posted July 13, 2012 ID:570032 Share Posted July 13, 2012 It's buggy. It has deemed legitimate sites as malicious. When you try to go to a false flagged site you get an OpenDNS warning page. If you contest it you can send them an email and it can take a minimum of 72hrs to resolve the issue. I ran against that using the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg's malware analysis sandbox. Not a malicious site, a White Hat site for automated malware analysis. That's why I stopped using it in 2010.Personally, I use GTEI and Google DNS servers. This site lists Public DNS servershttp://theos.in/windows-xp/free-fast-public-dns-server-list/

DarkSnakeKobra Posted July 15, 2012 ID:570921 Share Posted July 15, 2012 I've been flopping forth on this myself a bit. It seems okay, but one thing that really bugs me is the unavailable page with search results when a domain is incorrectly typed and not found. If I wanted to search I would have just googled it. It's so so.
