After Scanning was done. I tried to close MB, It said still scanning. I had to use windows xp task manager to close it. The only stay resident program that was loaded is sygate personal firewall. Does MB need anything enabled or disable is services.msc? I am using the free version.

  • Root Admin

It's possible that write to disk cache was not completed yet or some other unexpected issue. I see you're running FAT32 which is a bit odd for Windows XP these days. Most systems were converted to NTFS long ago but that itself should not be an issue.

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Judging from the Event Logs I'd say that you either need to correct your DHCP issues or you may have been infected before and this is/was a result of the infection.

But you also having timing issues which as I originally said might be part of the issue.

You might want to try a clean reinstall by using the mbam-clean utility and reinstall and see if you continue to have any issue or not.

Please do the following and see if it helps:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

What the minimum memory requirement for Free Version of Malwarebytes? I did another update of the definition file on 05-31-2012 before I read your post. It is now closing but it is slow but I think it is more of a memory issue.

I should possible post another thread on this issue. I was looking at the DHCP, the common thing is AFD, IPSEC Services & netbios over tcp. I disabled netbios partially using grc DCOMbob, I wanted to be able to use the task scheduler if needed.

There is a service listed called AFD. I read there is an issue with that on Microsoft part. I will do further reading on that as well.

Well there is no doubt you're pressing the limit with your CPU/RAM and the program will run slow. There are some things you can do to try and clean it up some and improve overall speed some but it's not going to run fast based on your hardware.

If you like you can post a new topic in the PC Help forum and ask someone to assist you in general maintenance in an effort to improve overall performance of the system.
