Regarding The IP Blacklist

Recommended Posts

I have both a suggestion and question regarding the IP Blacklist feature of Malwarebytes.

First of all, once I have added an IP to the exclude list, why does it take a restard of my browser to be able to access it?

Could we also find out a reason for the blacklist in the tooltip notification?

Thanks.

Greetings :)

That is because of DNS caching in Windows.

Could we also find out a reason for the blacklist in the tooltip notification?

We do plan to add such a feature eventually, but it requires us to compile an online database containing all of this information, which we haven't done yet.

I'm not seeing any images in your post, but I do know what you mean.

It's a good idea, unfortunately we probably can't do it because we aren't using a browser redirect or plugin to make this function work. Our malicious website blocking operates from within the Windows network stack and filters much more than just connections from your internet browser.

Try that.

That's a shame. I don't know much about web filtering, but I wouldn't say that it is impossbile. Take K9 web protection for example. (Unless that does things in a completely different way.)

cooldude,

What you would ask for the product to do is way out of reach. For nothing else, it would ask it to insert something into your browser page which is against all principles.

Beyond all that, the "unable to connect" or similar in other browsers (it's page not found in IE) is all shown by the browser itself.

I can't see that image, that webpage appears to be blocked by my HOSTS file. Can you attach a screenshot?

Sure thing, done.

I do even think it would need to insert anything into the browser. You could just intercept the traffic.

Yes, that is a possibility, though I don't know how difficult it would be for the developers to do so and I also wouldn't want to do it if it took too much of a performance hit on users' systems.

That being said, I definitely like the idea and we'll keep it in mind, thanks :).

Yeah, those would need to be taken into account.

Thanks for keeping it in mind, and thanks for the great software. :)
