Totally Up To Date Download

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has been asked before. I did search before posting but I'm not the best at finding such information :-)

I want to run a scan on my nans computer but whatever has infected it has stopped internet access as well.

The Malwarebytes free version I downloaded doesn't have the latest definitions.

I was wondering if there is a download anywhere that is totally up to date with definitions that I can install on her computer?

I tried installing a competitors? program called super anti spyware but it got blocked or something and the bad program said there were 10,0000000000000 virus' on her computer (ok an exaggeration).

Hello WestSwan & welcome to the MBAM Forums,

Since the computer you refer to sounds like it is already infected, we are not able to work on malware removal in this sub-forum. Please read the information provided by AdvancedSetup at the following link where you can obtain needed assistance:

Greetings and welcome :)

This is a fairly common problem sadly, but we do have a few options you can use to get the database up to date. The following is from our FAQ:

ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.

SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. Our database file is stored in the following locations.

  • Windows XP and 2000
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7:
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
Note: Starting with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60, you must also copy the file database.conf located within the Configuration folder which is in the same folder as rules.ref listed above.

You can also download a manual update from here - NOTE: This manual update will always be way behind in version level compared to updates from within the program.

You may also find these tutorials to be useful.

If you would like guided expert assistance then please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

If you prefer to be assisted via email you may contact Consumer Support and one of our support staff members will assist you directly.

Thanks :)
