File vbalsgrid6.ocx accidentally removed, Malwarebytes not working anymore

Recommended Posts

Hello,

at the end of a scan I was asked to remove the items collected over the months in a Malwarebytes folder. This "vbalsgrid6.ocx" is the first I removed, but I had to realise later that it was fundamental to make the software work and in fact I cannot even open the application now.

Is there a way to re-get this file and make Malwarebytes work again please? I am sorry, but I am absolutely no good at IT and don't want to take any further step without support.

Thank you very much in advance,

A.

MBAM Clean Install

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here.
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs here, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Please let us know if this resolves your issue.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for your replies. I do not think my version is PRO although I am not sure. The application was downloaded into my laptop by an IT experte 1 year ago, it might just be the standard free version.

I don't think I have either MS Visual Basic or MS Visual Studio, and I don't know what they are for? I can also tell you that months ago a friend of mine had to disable Windows Defender as it was not working any more after a virus had been removed previously.

Can you tell me what I should do please? as I think this is not the PRO version.

Thank you

Hello @Tropic

What "program /scan" asked to remove files? By that I mean, which specific program "tagged" the item and prompted the removal.

It was Malwarebytes itself who found a threatening file. When I went to remove it, the application transferred me to a window where I could read lots files stored in a Malwarebytes folder. I had serious doubts whether to delete them, so I just tried with one (i.e. vbalsgrid6.ocx) and, as I said, I had to realise later that I removed an important file and now the software is not even opening anymore.

Ok, I understood what you meant. I have done everything you said and Malwarebytes is now downloaded again and is performing a full scan at present.

The way I had got to delete the vbalsgrid6.ocx file was through the FileASSASSIN option. I found myself there and deleted the file without really knowing what I was doing.

Could anyone please explain what MS Visual Basic or MS Visual Studio are for? I don't think I have either in my laptop.

Thank you, you have been very helpful. Let's hope the scan does not deliver any surprise...

MS Visual Basic & Visual Studio are programming tools and used by developers.

The file vbalsgrid6.ocx is a grid control. It may have been added by some new program you installed.

In any event, do a full scan with MBAM, and follow up by doing a full scan with your antivirus, and see the results.

you may have seen a "false positive" and the file may have been really ok.
