Different scanning time depends on the selected method.

Recommended Posts

On-demand Scanning (the right mouse button C:\) >>>time: 21m01s (C: \ 78 667 files)

Scanner / Perform full scan / C:\_______________>>>time: 01m11s (267 411 total scan files - included memory)

Why the difference?

Hello and welcome to MBAM forum:

Until an expert has a chance to reply, I think you might be seeing the effect of disk-caching?

If you run a second scan after a scan, the second one will always be a bit faster because of this.

In reverse order.

Scanner / Perform full scan / C:\_______________>>>time: 06m33s (268 298 total scan files - included memory)

On-demand Scanning (the right mouse button C:\) >>>time: 21m20s (C:\ 79 562 files)

These are not the same type of scan. On demand is just files only. Full scan is memory, registry and files. Thus the difference in the counts.

Also as Daledoc said if you run a scan twice like two full scans in a row you will see disk caching speed up the second scan.

Also because of Malwarebytes tech neither of these scans would be necessary a majority of the time. Quick scan will handle most malware out there.

OK

My disk:

OCZ SSD Vertex2 Series 60GB VERTEX 2 no cache/only in RAM

Scanner / Perform full scan / C:\_______________>>>time: 06m33s (268 298 total scan files - included memory)

On-demand Scanning (the right mouse button C:\) >>>time: 21m20s (C:\ 79 562 files) -----------------------------------> the second scan is longer.

The only thing i can say is we don't optimize on demand scan you use it like you are. It is designed to check a few files and nothing more. You have to consider we are not designed like a typical antivirus. We are antimalware and behave differently. What to scan is built differently between a full scan and on demand scan like you are doing.
