I understand. For the first step, the inside of the check box was light blue. The delete button is grayed out. I selected the check box-the delete button stayed grayed out, so could not delete the item.

It did merge.

One thing-and not to bring up Avast again, I looked back in my posts, when I was trying to shut it down to run Combo Fix-and had trouble, I thought I mentioned that after the warning of not being protected (I was trying to shut it from the tool bar), I went ahead to shut it down, a black window came up-showed a bold red X & ACCESS DENIED. That never happened before, might not mean anything, just wanted to let you know.

I do have to get ready for work (starting Thursday morning 'll be off for the next 7 days-we work 7&7). Just brought in and restarted in normal mode-wallpaper gone-(microsoft blue), taskbar, quick launch icons on taskbar and clock are there, no icons.

I clicked on start button, menu pops up, it seems to hang. Menu eventually disappeared after clicking start again, button looks like it stated pressed down.

Taskbar there but diesnt really function, ctrl alt del wont shut it down, so turning off, will get ready for work.

If you want to close this thread, we can. It does still work in safe mode. I saw something about a "rogue finder" or something??, after all that was done don't know if that would make things worse-don't know if it could find something.

Allways felt like my registry is messed up, with remnants and wrong entries. I might try another repair install , or if that doesn't work, back up what isn't already backed up and do a clean install.
