Sophos Endpoint Protection (newest) and Trend Micro Titanium 2012

Recommended Posts

I currently have Trend Micro Titanium 2012 installed on my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit). Some people get this mixed up with the Internet security version but the one I have is just Titanium, not Internet Titanium, or whatever it's called. I just need to know how to set up exclusions with mBAM PRO and Trend Micro. I checked out this link: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138&st=0&p=162099entry162099 but it seems to be wayy out of date. If someone could show me the latest version exclusions, it would be most appreciated.

Also, I'm planning on running Sophos Endpoint Protection 10 (i'm pretty sure that's the latest version, if not then please tell me the latest version) on another one of my computers. But, I can't find any exclusions guide for Sophos. If anyone could show me a exclusions guide for Sophos (latest version!) with mBAM PRO, it would also be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I do not believe that exclusions are required for either of those products, however, for Titanium (I checked their site, and according to Trend Micro, it applies to ALL versions of Titanium, be it AV+, IS or any other version) the procedure is shown here. Just add the 3 files listed below:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

The most recent article for Sophos Endpoint that I could find is here. If desired (again, I'm not aware of such exclusions being necessary with Sophos), you should exclude the same 3 files listed above, but if it is a 32 bit Windows version on the other PC, then the folder would be C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Thanks very much exile :) I got all the exclusions and thanks for the links. I just have one question.. Now that I've read their website and all, I've noticed that Sophos seems intent on providing security for bussiness and organizations. Is actually downloading Sophos for personal home use legal? Thanks, and also, these exclusions apply to reduce any conflicts between mBAM PRO real-time protection and Sophos/Trend Micro real-time protection, right? Thanks :)

I'm honestly not sure. You'd need to review their EULA (End User License Agreement) and/or license information which should be displayed when you run their setup file and it may be available on their website as well.

Yes. Those procedures apply to excluding a file or folder from their realtime protection, which should reduce the probability of any conflicts (since they won't be scanning Malwarebytes Anti-Malware's processes).

Thanks, this helped a lot. Yep, I knew it!! Home use was allowed, it has to be. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks very much for helping me, I'm not so good at reading license agreements (I just tend to hit "Agree" to everything), I know this is a bad habit and I'm trying to better myself. Thanks again. :)

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help :).

It looks like they only sell the product to businesses, however, as long as your employer allows (I'm assuming you're the purchaser/employer for your business), then it's OK to have the product installed on a home computer for an employee of the licensed company as long as the number of purchased licenses by the company is not exceeded.

Yes, I would be the purchaser. Haha, I'm 14 but I do buy my own security suites. Most of my family really don't care about web security, but crazy about all other kinds. If not for me, they wouldn't even have an anti-virus!! But yes, I love to check out anti-viruses, their statistics etc. I'm probably gonna go to bed in a few, you have a good night :)

Ah, I see, well I'll say this, your family is very lucky to have a 14 year old who is so aware of and dedicated to computer security, as it's something that far too many people overlook.

If you do have any further questions about Sophos' licensing policies, I would recommend that you contact them via their support. I don't know that they allow the software to be purchased directly for home use, but they may, though if you're simply testing it for now, then I doubt contacting them about it would even be necessary until and if you decide to actually buy the product.

Thanks, if only they thought like that. They just say that I'm wasting my time finding anti-virus suites and protection. Eh, I'll let em do what they want, maybe when they do get infected, they'll come to me.. then we'll see who's the right one.

Oh and also, please let AdvancedSetup know that not all teenagers are annoying and clueless, I think I saw one of his threads that talked about the different kinds of people who posted here. We're not all annoying, though most of us are so I don't blame him :P

Thanks for fixing all this info out for me, it's so hard for me to read license agreements, uggh, they're so...boring! Lol :)

 no problem. He's well aware of that. We do have several trained malware removal experts that are teenagers, so he knows that not all teenagers are like that :).

You're welcome :). Yeah, they can be quite tedious to read and they're written in 'Legalese' which makes them difficult for us normal folks to read :P.

Cool, I'm thinking about joining one of the UNITE schools. "Legalese" is one of the hardest languages to read. Mostly because it's so frustrating. The frustrating part is that you know it makes sense, but you have no idea what it's saying. :D
