SCANS for Mr.Charlie

Recommended Posts

Listen..please stop and please find someone who nows about computers and can install the operating system for you. If you can't do the things I asked you, there's no way you're going to be able to install the operating system, find and install all the drivers and update it.

If you don't have a friend then take it to a computer shop and let them do it.

That's the best advice I can give you.

Okay.

On another computer, the CD opens, shows 8 basic files in folder. I opened the menu & it has most of the files shown

on the desktop of the sick computer. Here's the breakdown...

In drive, it shows:

...........................................

I386

programs

SFX

Autorun

reatogoMenu

reatogoMenu (txt, I guess)

WINS1IP

WINS1IP.SP2

.............................................

In the reatogoMenu file is:

............................................

2-Open Folder Programs [folder]

7-Zip File Manager

Agent Ransack

Disk Investigator

DriveImage XML

Handy Recov...

ImgBurn

Magical Jelly Beans

MSKeyViewer Plus

notepad ++

Undelete Plus

Windows Registr...

................................................

In the 2-Open Folders Programs folder is:

.................................................................

7zFM

Agent Ransack

di

DISKPART_GUI

dixml

Foxit Reader

Handy Recovery

HxD

ImgBurn

Keyfinder

MSKey Viewer Plus

notepad ++

Nu2Menu

OTLPE

Test Disk

Undelete_plus

wbload

WRR

xplorer2_lite

.................................................

I checked the second disk, which was recorded at 2.4 instead of Maximum & it looks exactly the same.

Looking for a byte count on both CDs I was puzzled to find they listed no bytes used & 702 mb free [??]

.............................................................................

Would it damage anything to shut down the sick computer & try the second OTLPE disk?

This is a malware forum, we help people remove malware from their computers.

This not a tech forum, I can't hold your hand though this whole process. I pointed you in the right direction,

I told you want has to be done, fine someone to help you or take it to a shop, that's the best I could do for you.

I didn't cause the damage to your computer.

XP repair install:

http://pcsupport.abo...stxprepair1.htm

Clean install:

http://pcsupport.abo...nstxpclean1.htm

and when you do get the OP installed.......

Take a look at My Preventive Maintenance to avoid being infected again.

Mr.C,

I certainly didn't mean to imply you caused any damage.

I appreciate the links you include here & all of the time and bother you've extended to help...

When this is over I surely intend to insist that she properly protect the new OS.

The one thing which would clear up the questions I am left with which your expertise may provide is-

in your opinion can the malware on the system have prevented OTLPE from installing properly?

Thank you for all of your help...

No, I don't think it would...OTLPE is a separate operating system.

Good Luck.....MrC
