CIT248813-HPU-Redbox-v4 (executable file)

Recommended Posts

I was having problems with slowness and occasional idle lock-up recently and started monitoring CPU usage, physical memory for possible clues. As time went on, my computer would lock-up sooner and sooner after start-up. I finally decided to do a system restore, going back approximately 2 weeks. That seemed to speed things up somewhat, but I had a feeling something was still far from right.

I started KIP, and it froze about 10 minutes in. 2nd time, about the same thing. 3rd time, I started monitoring CPU usage and memory, another crash without any sign or explanation.

I went to Malwarebytes and scanned, monitoring as well, the computer froze after 2 minutes or so. 2nd try, about the same result. 3rd try, and it froze again, and this is when the file name.

Using Windows Explorer, I located the file. When I tried to delete it, the computer froze. I tried several different ways of deleting it, even trying to delete the whole downloads folder it is in. Every time, my computer freezes.

From what I have read online, there are polarized opinions, some saying this is a valid program, others (mostly companies selling virus removal software) saying it is a virus that cannot be removed manually.

Can anyone help me with this?

Greetings :)

In order to determine the cause of your problems, including whether or not the file in question is indeed an infection or not, please do the following:

We don't work on malware removal in this part of the forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

If you prefer to be assisted via email you may contact Consumer Support and one of our support staff members will assist you directly.

Thank you :)
