Quarantined item doesn't show after restore

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Following a scan I quarantined a couple of files suspected as trojans.

Then I chose one file and restored it. I couldn't find it in the original folder.

A second scan detected it again as a suspected trojan, and yet I couldn't find the file.

I made sure in "folder options" that no files will be hidden.

The file is an exe file and the folder (Temporary Internet Files) had no exe files in it.

Any suggestions?

Could be something else hiding the files, or they are marked as system files and are being protected.

As mentioned, I made sure that no sys files would be hidden, and I have no idea what could hide them. They were exe files inside the Temporary Internet Files folder.

They belonged to an old version of SBS Counter Spy app.

You can't usually browse the Temporary Internet Files folder while Windows is booted normally. Windows is somewhat funny about that.

I usually use a BartPE CD. Something like UBCD4Win.

Thank you, Arthur. There's always something new to learn. :D I wonder if Win can be booted not "normally "from the OS without the use of a boot CD in order to browse that folder.

It may be possible to browse that folder in Safe Mode, but I have been using bootable CD's for such things for years, so I really don't remember. :D
