System 32\smss.exe access requested - is this OK?

Zone Alarm firewall has recently starting reporting "Malwarebytes AntiMalware is trying to communicate with \SystemRoot\System32\smss.exe by opening it's process" as suspicious behaviour.

Is this a legitimate request and should I allow it? If I deny access (which I've been doing) it doesn't seem to make any difference as I can then continue to update or scan as normal. This has started happening every time I open Malwarebytes and I'm really not sure what to do, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Maniac, I'll allow it from now on. Any idea what it's doing as MWAB still works OK when I deny it though?

Most likely it's just checking the process to make sure there's nothing malicious going on like a trojan trying to hijack that process (I could be wrong though).
